Orchidea Frutta expands its grape range

Orchidea Frutta is a company specialising in the production and distribution of table grapes, cherries, citrus fruits, peaches, nectarines, apricots, watermelons and artichokes.

The business covers 350 hectares where it produces seeded and seedless grapes, working in accordance with a management system based on good agricultural practices, in compliance with GlobalGAP. The company produces more than 25% of its market’s grape requirements in its own growing areas.
The plant is located in Rutigliano’s (BA) industrial centre and covers an area of 40,000 square metres, with 14,000 m2 of this dedicated to the production area and 5,000 m2 to cold storage; The factory is equipped with high-tech automated systems to ensure careful selection of the produce.
Orchidea Frutta is an authorised distributor for all Sun World seedless grape varieties. “As far as forecasts for 2018 are concerned”, explains Nicola Giuliano who runs the company with his brother, Vitantonio, “we will have the Superior seedless®, Scarlotta seedless®, Midnight beauty® and Sophia seedless® varieties ready to go, while we will have to wait until 2019 for Autumn crisp®, Adora seedless® and Sable seedless®”.
A further 60 hectares will be added to the hectares already in production by the end of the 2018 season, which will result in an even higher share of seedless grapes. Over the next 6 years, Orchidea Frutta’s vineyards will see an increase in Sun World varieties, aligning with the company’s growth strategy.
“Until a decade ago, seedless varieties made up less than 5% of the total”, add the managers of the Rutigliano company. “Today, the market has spoken, and preferences have shifted. Our commitment to investing has the potential to breathe new life into Apulian viticulture, encouraging everyone to measure themselves against cultivation innovations and market demands”.
