table grapes

the tasty grapes

In September, the table subtly comes alive with tasty bunches of table grapes.

Orchidea Frutta harvests them from its own vineyards directly in Apulia, where goodness is a religion.
Unlike wine grapes, this type has a ratio of acids to sugars that is more inclined to sweetness.

Harvesting

The harvesting of table grapes is to be considered equally delicate as the technical and agronomic operations that preceded it.

This phase, in fact, is decisive for the commercial positioning of the product and the maintenance of its characteristics over time.

When

Determining the optimal time for harvesting is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of the final stages of the production process, having a considerable influence on the quality and length of the product’s storage period.

Reception and

storage

During the reception phase, when the raw materials arrive, the quality of the produce is checked and it is then cooled in cold rooms or by forced air in order to maintain its shelf life.

Orchidea grapes also undergo brief refrigerated storage. This phase is usually brief. The packaged product is stored in cold rooms in order to keep the organoleptic properties intact.

Selection

Processing in the factory allows for a more careful selection of the produce and greater accuracy in the final packaging, especially for small packages of equal weight and for batches of produce that need further selection.

In this phase, any foreign bodies are removed and the bunches are checked, discarding those that do not conform. The operation is carried out manually so that we can immediately check whether there are any bunches that do not meet our standards.

Packing

Once the packaging and pallet tying phase has been completed, the product must be stored in a cold room, pending loading onto the transport vehicle. The product must remain in the cold store for as short a time as possible in order to guarantee its freshness at all times.

The ideal temperature for storing and transporting the product should be around 0°C, particularly when shipping long distances (15 to 20 days), while it can vary between 2 to 4°C for shorter distances.
